Buchanan Middle School kids to take part in the Simeon Rice Back-2-School Workout

Aug. 24 event to provide at-risk youth with life skills training, motivation, football drills and more

Phoenix - The FairPlay Foundation and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Simeon J. Rice have partnered up with The University Area Community Development Corporation, Inc. and Buchanan Middle School (BMS) to host an event for 50 at-risk youth on Aug. 24, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the University Area Community Center Complex, 14013 North 22nd St., in Tampa.

The Simeon Rice Back-2-School Workout is a program developed to help children achieve their life dreams and goals through physical and mental motivation. Fifty 6th to 8th grade BMS students will have an opportunity to write an essay entitled "What if..." Interested students will be asked to finish the statement and explain it. BMS teachers will then select the winning essays and ask those children to participate. The program is aimed at youths needing a little guidance and motivation, who need school supplies and are excited about the new year. During the event, Mr. Rice will speak about school, life goals and nutrition. He will then lead the kids in a workout and in football drills.

Several sponsors have donated supplies: Buccaneers Gatorade Junior Training Camp (equipment), Winn Dixie (snacks), Wal-Mart (backpacks and school supplies) and GNC (vitamins).

The Simeon Rice Back-2-School Workout is presented by The FairPlay Foundation and The Simeon J. Rice Charitable Fund. The charitable fund, T3K Wear and GNC are supporting the event financially.

The FairPlay Foundation is a Phoenix-based non-profit organization created to assist professional athletes, celebrities and other affluent, civic-minded citizens in becoming more involved and giving back to enhance the community in which they live, play and serve. Sandra Tenuto, FairPlay’s executive director, is the event coordinator.
